What data are collected in EES?

Travellers crossing external borders provide their personal data, which are recorded and stored by the EES system:

  • travel document details (first name, surname, date and place of birth),
  • date and place of each entry and exit,
  • biometric data: facial image and fingerprints,
  • information on any refusal of entry.

The EES may also use data from other EU information systems:

  • VIS (Visa Information System) – for persons with a short-stay visa,
  • ETIAS** – for travellers exempt from the visa requirement.
