What data are collected in EES?
Travellers crossing external borders provide their personal data, which are recorded and stored by the EES system:
- travel document details (first name, surname, date and place of birth),
- date and place of each entry and exit,
- biometric data: facial image and fingerprints,
- information on any refusal of entry.
The EES may also use data from other EU information systems:
- VIS (Visa Information System) – for persons with a short-stay visa,
- ETIAS** – for travellers exempt from the visa requirement.
