President of the Personal Data Protection Office with new competences – Polish Data Governance Act signed by the President
The President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki signed Polish Data Governance Act, which grants new competences to the President of the Personal Data Protection Office regarding:
· Data Intermediation Matters
· Registration of data altruism organisations
· Transfer of non-personal data to third countries.
This law implements the EU Data Governance Act (DGA). These new provisions establish, among other things rules for the re-use of certain categories of data held by public sector entities that are subject to the protection of third party rights (so-called protected data). In addition, a legal framework has been established for the activities of providers of data intermediation services to enhance trust between data providers and data users.
"The new provisions on data governance from the perspective of the authority whose competences are being enhanced are extremely important. Though I think they are even more important for the business and social circles, which will benefit from new solutions. The Polish Data Governance Act provides an additional boost to Poland's economic and social development," said Mirosław Wróblewski, President of the Personal Data Protection Office.
