Map of Medical Data Sources in Poland – Debate with the Participation of the President of the Personal Data Protection Office
On 10 April 2026, a debate was held at the Warsaw headquarters of the Polish Press Agency to mark the launch of the report “Map of Medical Data Sources in Poland” – a document that organises and clarifies the topic of data within the healthcare system. The event brought together experts, representatives of public institutions, doctors, and leaders of the health sector.
The report “Map of Medical Data Sources in Poland” was prepared by the AI One Health Foundation under the editorial direction of Aneta Sieradzka, with the Scientific Polpharma Foundation as a partner. The publication shows that although there is a large volume of medical data in Poland, it is dispersed across various institutions, often incompatible, and difficult to use in clinical and research practice.
During the debate, which featured Aneta Sieradzka, President of the AI One Health Foundation; Mirosław Wróblewski, President of the Personal Data Protection Office; Krzysztof Kurowski, Vice-President of the Scientific Polpharma Foundation; Jarosław Protasiewicz, Director of the National Information Processing Institute; and Grzegorz Wrona, Secretary of the Supreme Medical Chamber, participants emphasised that without organising medical data, it is difficult to speak of modern medicine, effective treatment, or the development of innovation.
“Secondary use of personal and non-personal data relating to health is of significant importance from the perspective of both the interests of the state and the interests (including collective interests) of individuals (particularly patients) whose data are concerned, especially in the context of implementing the European Health Data Space,” said Mirosław Wróblewski, President of the Personal Data Protection Office.
“The AI One Health Foundation consistently pursues its mission of unlocking medical data for the benefit of economic development, science, and patient welfare. The development of tools based on artificial intelligence raises questions about the balance between innovation and the protection of patient privacy, as well as about the responsibility of medical institutions and researchers for the transparent and ethical use of health information. The privacy of each of us has fundamental value, especially in an era of disinformation, which affects us all,” said Aneta Sieradzka, President of the AI One Health Foundation.
The data exist – but access is lacking
Experts unanimously pointed out that the problem is not the absence of information, but the lack of possibilities for its effective use. The system requires integration. Currently, data exist across many separate systems – from public facilities to private ones. There is no single coherent ecosystem. Legal and technological changes are needed. Participants highlighted the need to simplify regulations and develop interoperable IT systems.
Data as the foundation of the future of medicine
Without their proper use, it will be difficult to develop artificial intelligence in medicine, scientific research, or personalised medicine. As emphasised during the debate, the key challenge now is to move from diagnosing the problems to implementing solutions in practice.
The debate demonstrated that medical data are one of the most important resources of the healthcare system – but only if we are able to use them effectively. The report “Map of Medical Data Sources in Poland” is not only an analysis but also a starting point for real changes that may influence the future of healthcare in Poland.
