The President of the PL SA participated in the 20th Congress of the Automotive Industry and Market
The President of the Personal Data Protection Office, Mirosław Wróblewski, took part in the 20th Congress of the Automotive Industry and Market organised by the Association of Automotive Parts Distributors and Manufacturers (SDCM).
In his presentation entitled “The role of data in the automotive industry in the context of the new Data Act”, Mirosław Wróblewski discussed the challenges related to access to data generated by vehicles and emphasised the importance of effective implementation of the provisions of the Data Act to ensure market balance, fair competition and the protection of users’ rights. He also spoke about the relationship between the GDPR and the Data Act and the need to safeguard personal data.
“Today cars increasingly make use of vast amounts of data concerning drivers, passengers and other participants in transport processes, including personal data. A modern car processes enormous volumes of information. Like all objects of the Internet of Things, the car is connected to the network, which is why representatives of the automotive industry should take into account the Data Act, whose aim is to support innovation, prevent data access being blocked and ensure fair access to data,” said Mirosław Wróblewski, President of the Personal Data Protection Office.
He also reminded participants that in September this year the European Commission issued guidelines on the Data Act specifically concerning users and internet‑connected vehicles. These are practical recommendations for applying the provisions of the Act.
During the Congress, the Access and Identity Management (IAM) sector presented its position on the Data Act, highlighting the need to ensure fair and transparent access to data generated by vehicles, as well as the necessity of effective enforcement of the new regulations across the European Union.
